Today is a big day for Baby. His first dip in a real pool, and not just any. Baby starts his bathing career in a geothermal natural spa in Myvatn. Leaving Iceland without a proper soak would be a sin.
Going to a spa with such a small baby is not common, so we did some research on safety beforehand. And it was not helpful at all. Let’s trust that spa’s no age limit is based on some facts. Logistics was a nightmare thanks to separated man and woman changing rooms. Who goes soaking first? Who takes the baby? How long can Baby stay in the water? How to do the switch? How to manage the distance from changing rooms to pool in 7°C without freezing Baby?
So we are sitting on a bench in front of the pool entrance, immersed in this logistical puzzle, when a family with two kids and a tiny baby comes in. They come in the changing rooms, emerge 5 minutes later, head to the pools, and dip in the hot water. No drama, no stress.
Inspired, we follow suit and just go ahead. And Baby absolutely loves it. He smiles and splashes around, even tries to swim, all in the safety of Daddy’s arms. Thank you random Icelandic family for leading the way!
