Porto welcomed us with fog and rain. Despite the gloomy weather we headed downtown, hoping that the sky will clear out. We could not have been more wrong. Walking around in pouring rain sucks even without a baby in a carrier, so we gave up on Unesco and decided to satisfy our materialistic urges instead. Shops are a perfect, although a bit expensive, rain cover. Lucky for us, the credit card was saved from further damage when the sky cleared out next day.
Porto is a city unlike any other. It has a Unesco heritage old town, trendy artistic quarter, modern commercial district, fancy shops next to run down buildings. It has views, bridges, gardens, and churches. But most of all, Porto is a city with character. It doesn’t feel like a tourist trap, rather like an old friend’s living room.
No visit to Porto would be complete without port wine tasting. And so we tasted. Or to be specific, poor Daddy (haha) had to taste for the whole family. Mummy’s milk with a port wine twist would not be a good idea. Baby was desperately trying to get at least a little sip, and as his grabbing skills are improving rapidly these days, it was a close one. Bottles quickly replaced diapers in the trunk, and we are ready to head back to Spain for the last part of our trip.
